I recently visited a man who wanted to get the photographs he had taken on his phone on to his PC. He had the correct cable (which is half the battle) but when he plugged his phone on to PC nothing happened.
Now Windows is quite good at recognizing devices when they are plugged in to the PC but mobile phones need to be told that they must connect to the PC.
If you are having this problem find SETTINGS on your mobile phone.
Next find something like CONNECTIVITY
You will probbaly have a couple of options, one of whih might be MASS STORAGE DEVICE or similar and when you have chosen that you will probably be asked to confirm connerction by USB. This might be the other way round on some phones.
You then connect the USB cable abd your PC should say ding-ding and a helpful little window will pop up offering ways in which you can acess the data on your phone.
You can either use one of the media viewers to look at the photos or videos, or a music player to paly wahtever sounds are on your phone.
If you are going to remove the photos from your phone I would rcommend you simply View The Files. This opens up a window that list the foldrs on your phone. One of them will be images and here you can view the images by setting the View to Large Icons and can simply darg and drop the images to wherever you want them on your PC.
If you are unsure where to put them it is best to start with the My Pictures folder that is already on your PC. Just drag the photo to that folder and it will be copied in.
When you are sure the photos have all been copied you can then delete them from yoir phone.

BACKING UP
I am often amazed that many people do not back up their computers. Especially that valuable email address book. How many people keep email addresses written down in an address book? Not many.
You really ought to copy your address book occassionally to somewhere other than your computer. On to a memory stick is best but there are plenty of places on the net where you can back up for free, or save files. Dropbox; Google Docs are just two.
A popular (if that is not an oxymoron) virus is one that attacks your address book. I know of al least two freinds who have lost their very old and very large email address books by an attack from a virus that simply emailed all their freinds with the virus attached and then destroyed the address book it has just used.
Think about it. What would you do?

WINDOWS UPDATES
I have just been to a friends house. She had purchased a Memory Stick because the nice man at a well know PC shop said she needed one to back up her photos. Well I suppose that was OK but he should have told her how to to the back up and 4GB is not very big. She had over 1000 photos on her laptop and the stick is now half full.
I noticed that she had not been downloading her Windows Updates. Very dodgy that. I explained here anti-virus software depended on Windows being up-to-date and she should download the updates. So we spent an hour getting her laptop up-to-date, something that only taken minutes if you keep accepting the update as they come along.

Problems with web pages not updating?
Sometimes you go to a web site and just know that thre should, by that time, have been some changes but they are simply not there.
Sometimes you click on a password link box but it just wont open.
This can be caused by your web browser not emptying its cache. Cache is where the web browser stores pages you open so that you can flick backwards and forwards betweeb pages. It is usually a temporary file on your had disk or on RAM but sometimes, especially if you visit that page a lot, it doesnt get erased and so your browser simply finds the page on your computer instead of directly from the web. Your browser is trying to be helpful!
You can empty the cache from your we browser by going to TOOLS, OPTION and deleting your browing history.

A freind had a small computing problem
A freind of mine, who I know through a local group I belong to, had a proble with his laptop the other day and asked for my advice. He had downloaded some documents from what the considered to be a reliable source in the education sector. Somewhow he ended up with an image in the centre of his desktop that was not clickable, coud not be moved, deleted or edited. He asked what to do.
I suspect, though cannot be positive that somewhere in amongst the files he downloaed was an file ending in .exe This is an exucutable file. I.E. a programme.
By the description I guesed that it had placed an image in STARTUP and everytime mt freind opened his laptop up popeed the image.
I suggested he opend STARTUP and deleted anything in that folder that should not be there.
Problem was solved. However I must now get him to check that whatever did that to STARTUP is no longer there. Also, remember, even though you might have deleted it, it is still in the Recycle Bin and needs to removed from there too.

If you want me to create a web site for you it can cost as little as £150. All you will need to pay for on top of that is your domain registration fees and and space on your ISPs server.
Send me an email and I can return some information, or you can read more on either of my web sites. It wont cost you a penny until you are happy with what I create for you so what have you to lose?
